Control4 OS 2.5.3 Release Enhances Camera Support

Driver Templates Are Provided for Dealer Modification
March 18, 2014

Control4's new OS 2.5.3 software release adds support for industry leading and other popular surveillance cameras.

Since 2006 Control4 has supported Panasonic and Axis cameras. Now, 8 years later, this latest software release supports camera models from ICRealtime, Channel Vision, Lilin, Planet, Qnap, and SnapAV. The drivers for each camera manufacturer will support at least one primary camera type, with IP cameras being popular. Note the company-specific drivers are pending certification from Control4, and expected to be available very soon.

In the meantime, dealers can develop camera drivers easily using the new camera code template provided by the DriverWorks software development kit. Required modifications are adding certain camera URLs and feature phrases to well-marked places in the code template to enable the capabilities provided by the camera, such as pan, tilt, and zoom. The relatively simple edits to the template produce a fully integrated camera in a matter of minutes.

Note ICRealtime is the number one camera supplier preferred by custom integrators (CI) in the USA, many of whom are Control4 dealers. Support for SnapAV and Channel Vision cameras and video recorders will also be welcomed by many CIs as well, who already use a variety of products from both companies designed for custom A/V installations.

In addition to camera support there are a number of bug fixes in this release which further enhance the reliability of the Control system.
