If you'd like to stream high definition audio/video programming to your entertainment center from the internet, and you don't need or want a Windows Media Center (WMC) system, Sherwood may have a solution for you.

While we are fans of WMC systems, we also realize it may not be physically possible or functionally desirable for some folks to locate a Life/Ware system or a WMC PC in their entertainment center. If you have a home wired or wireless data network you can easily integrate the new Sherwood R-904N NetBoxx Internet A/V Receiver into your entertainment center.

This product becomes even more attractive if you frequently access streaming audio/video from Hulu, Netflix, CBS, CNN, ESPN, Rhapsody, Amazon Video On Demand, CinemaNow, YouTube, or SHOUTcast Internet Radio stations, and also personal media stored on a home PC located in another room.

The R-904N NetBoxx Internet A/V Receiver may be able to augment an existing 5.1/7.1 surround A/V Receiver in your entertainment center. But it appears this product is limited to 720p/60 video resolution, which may not cut it as your only AVR if full 1080p resolution is desired from your receiver.

Some key features of the R-904N are:

  • Inputs: HDMI 1.3 (3), Component video (2), Toslink optical (1), Coaxial digital audio (2).
  • Dolby Volume, Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats
  • DTS 96/24, Neo 6 Cinema and Music, Dolby Digital and Dolby ProLogic IIx audio formats
  • Two 32-bit digital signal processors for audio
  • TMS320DM6446 digital media processor for video
  • Option playback in a second room
  • Support for conventional radio broadcast with a 4-Gang Quartz PLL Synthesized FM Tuner that enables 30 station presets
  • MSRP under $650

You won't find product details for the R-904N on the Sherwood web site just yet. For a little more detail check out this CEPro article.
